Default Sliced drag link, need opinions

So I was replacing a u joint in my axle and I saw this, never thought it could happen either

So could anyone tell me why this happened? I'm thinking maybe the sway bar link mount might have brushed up against it, but it's a really clean cut, so I'm not sure!
Anyway I now have been thinking of going with an otk steering kit, I know that I'll have to ream and everything for it, but what else do I have to do? I've read you have to remount the track bar, which is okay, but I also saw that people move the sway bars too.

I have a d30 up front, 4.5" rc lift, and 33" tires. I'm kinda just asking for people's inputs and ideas. Which company? And all that other good stuff

Looks like someone tried to cut it at one point but gave up. As for OTK yes you need to move the track bar above the axle and you'll also have to relocate your sway bar mounts as well. With 4.5" of lift it may be easier to stay under the knuckle and just find a kit that doesn't bind like the factory setup.

That's the only thing I can think of, is that someone accidentally cut it. But I've seen many upgrade kits. Otk would just be too much work and money for me, I have yet to look for utk. But I've seen kits like the crown, currie, and the grand Cherokee upgrade, I'm just still wondering what one to do

I have also seen the iro bolt in Otk steering, Im stuck between that, the crown upgrade, and the grand Cherokee upgrade, anyone have pros or cons to these?

I use a Mid 90's V-8 GC setup on mine for tie rods. Direct bolt-in and quite strong still using them with my 35's.
