Shocks important?
I have a 91 Cherokee with 400000 on it. Impressive even for a jeep! I love it! It's only a wheeling rig. I bought 2pm pucks and custom tabbed 3 in shackles. I got rancho 5000 shocks from my buddy. I took both sway bars totally out and put the thing together, but the rear shocks were bent bad from a roll over.My stock shocks are maxed out open in the rear. My question is if i just leave the shocks out in the rear, will that be a huge problem? Will it make my axle move around or will it stay located by just the u bolts? Thanks in advance for your input

i was trying to replace my rear shocks, just got it done this morning after a month of driving without shocks in the rear. i hated it. even the littlest bumps on local dirt roads sucked. and speed bumps were dodge unless you had no choice. never tried any real wheeling with it but i know that it could demolish your leafs. but they wont slide, if that is all you care about.

you do wear the leafs out flexing them crawling but you are moving at a much lower speed. go try flexing your jeep while doing 65mph. you will wear them out. same thing as coils.

if you wear them out so fast crawling why did i have the same pair of leafs that stayed at the same height for 4 years? when bouncing on the road you are not completely flexing your leaf so your argument is irrelevant. only way you would is if you hit dip after dip after dip and so on. i ran no shocks in the rear of my jeep for a month because i was to lazy to weld in mounts after my new axle went in. guess what? my leafs are fine. i must have magic leafs huh

Shocks are very important.. If they weren't, they wouldn't have been installed by the factory.
That being said, buy some new shocks that will fit the size of lift your jeep has.
Relocation brackets will be fine instead of getting new shocks, but they won't hold up if you're doing some hard wheelin.

He said this was his wheeling rig. Completely extending and compressing the leaf spring is going to wear out and potentially snap the leaf springs. With 400,000 miles on your leafs, no shocks, and 3" shackles.. They will probably snap offroad. You can wheel it until then though!
