Rugged Ridge 1 ton steering upgrade (UTK)

Hey guys ever since I locked the front, Ive been having steering troubles. Looking at the rugged ride 1 ton steering crossover upgrade. Is this setup still good for street driving? Any problems? Im at 3 inches of lift on only 235's but will be on 31's soon enough. Any reviews on this or any advice on steering? I dont want exspensive and I have no need for OTK.

Nobody has experience?

Well you posted in OEM Tech so most of us don't pay attention to 1 ton steering trends.

PM a mod and have it moved to Mod Tech and you'll be much more likely to get helpful answers.

It's not a great setup but not bad. It will have roll steer, JCRs setup is identical but gives you a solid plastic puck to replace one of the grease caps to help with this. Unlike JCRs which uses stock chevy tie rod ends, RRs kit uses their ends which you cannot buy individually if you need to replace one. I have most of a kit laying in my garage somewhere because of this. At 3" your stock steering should be fine though.

Locking the front makes a huge difference with steering. And ya but jcr's one has to be modified by a shop and how much more would that cost me? for one little puck?

JCR sells them and it helps some but you still have a little play in the steering.

Sells what? I do not want their 400 dollar kit that needs to be modified to fit. Just for one little puck. Lol

Thank you

Look at serious steering

emptypockets 06-17-2013 09:04 PM

For 31's just use V8 ZJ stuff. I don't see the need for one ton steering for what you have.

ZINGGG 06-17-2013 09:07 PM

At 3" and 31s, I doubt you need 1 ton steering

But...guys...he's locked!! It makes a huge difference! Lol

What kind of steering problems are happening...thats a good question....

Whats breaking? Nothing has been said, so for all anyone knows a power steering pump may be tired and unable to keep up with the demand of a locked front end...
