Here is my roof rack, built by my Dad and I. Total costs of materials, paint, etc turned out to be anout $170. Not bad, if you ask me. If you'd like dimensions, let me know. These are the best pics I have of it
The one in the back, obviously.

We have light tabs, but the KC's weren't in yet. Shows mounting and all...

Kinda shows the design. Started with 4 pieces of tubing. Bent them, and welded them together making 2 large rectangle 'loops', one set being a few inches shorter on each than the other, to make the top part of the basket smaller, with tabs on the front for lights. after we had those set up, we welded both loops together with tabs at ~4inches for height. We braced the bottom with angle iron and covered it with grip-lapped mesh. Turned out pretty nice, I say.

love the racks and you guys have my wheels turning, I have a friend who's a welder by trade but doesn't have a welder
and neither do I but I may have to pick one up as there's always something I need it for. I would have my buddy over to give me some pointers as the only thing I make with metal is this.

I was on the fence about just buying one but after seeing your builds I'm leaning toward making one...
sneaky, how is your rack attached?? is it just resting on the roof braced to the rail??
does the rack itself make any noise on daily commutes?

I have a Yakima Basketcase. I can't make anything half decent myself so for me bought > built lol. It's also really low-key compared to a lot you see around here which I like. I'll get pics tomorrow.
