Default Replacing rear xj speakers?

So today, I realized that both of my rear speakers were shot. I did some searching, because I know nothing about audio, and found that you can fit 6.5s, with not much modifications? I'm not really sure, but I was wondering if you could help me. Can these fit in my Cherokee without having to drill new holes? Another question, do you think these speakers would be decent factory replacements? I'm not really looking for anything mind blowing, I just want decent sound.

Thanks for your help!

www.crutchfield.com even if you don't buy from them you can see what fits.

6.5" fit easily in the 97-01 cherokees. Just watch the mounting depth on the front speakers and sometimes the tweeters push the door panel out a little bit.

You will loose a lot of the bass present in the stock speakers. The mids and highs improve though.

For the rear: Basically any 6.5" will fit in the rear headliner sound bar. Stuff some poly fill into the area behind the speakers to take up the air space. This improved my sound.

Amping my speakers woke my system up a bit. I have alpine sps 610s if you want a size comparison. They push out the panels just a little bit in the front. No problems in the rear.

I put polk 6.5 speakers in the rear of my 99xj and they fit the holes just fine. The factory grills don't quite sit flush over them due to the tweeter sticking out though. You can't see it unless you open the hatch and they haven't fallen off yet so I don't really care. They sound way better.

These going in the sound bar or rear hatch spots? I know they will fit the bar. Look like same ones I have there. The one I have would not line up withthe screw hole in the hatch. had to go to a 5 1/2 there. Ended up with 6x9 mounted to the cover.

Now that I know 6.5s fit, my question is should I go with the 6.5s, or just stick with 5.25s?

Yeah, they're just going into the sound bar.
