Default Removable Moonroof?

Just wondering if anyone has attempted to install a moonroof on a gen. 2 xj. Seems like if might be tough to get a good seal with the ribs. A buddy told me to use plexiglass. I'm going to do some research on this. Any ideas would be helpful.

I have seen cherokee's with moon roofs so Im sure its possible. I also have seen some pretty crappy looking DIY moon roofs that looked like some plastic that was tar and featherd into place.

I currently have a 2000 Cherokee Sport with an aftermarket moon/sun roof and it gives me nothing but problems. I'm sure it is quite possible to install one if you'd like but you should review some pros - cons beforehand. My biggest problem is having it vented while it begins to rain, the sensor gets wet and then it won't close at any time so then you have to pull the tube lining off and mess with all the wires every time this happens. This may just be me though however

You like sitting in a wet seat? You like extra wind noise? you like having the sun bake your dome? Then by all means go for it. A sun/moon roof is fun for ten minutes, the it's a pain for years on end. Got one in my ZJ and hate it.

I have always thought it would be cool to do this setup the whole length of the roof.

But it would require a cage or some sort of roof stiffening.

Detours rig is one of the sickest I've seen. I would like to go that route but those tops are about a grand, so it might have to wait. First comes the cage..

Anyone have any other opinions on this? I was thinking about it earlier today, kinda like the idea. I don't know if I'd buy it or some how construct it. But I'd want it to just have latches/locks and be removable. I don't want it to be automatic. I figure a high window tint to block a large portion of the sun, and then aside from all the appropriate seals and such, even add some grommets on the inside with a vinyl cover or something that would take care of any (small) leaks if they were to occur.

I personally like the idea of having a small removable section of roof on the XJ. It'd compliment the no door look, IMO. Might even be fun in the mud, lol.

My 97 JGC has a sun roof, but its factory, not after market... It Has a slider thing to close up so ut "dome" dont cook lol, but I can agree when it rains and its left open its a PIA to get it to shut!

There are plenty of after market options.

They are just really tough to do right.
