Exclamation Removable Door Problems

So i did the no door mod on my 1995 Cherokee where i cut the hinges and put connectors on all the wires and that is all good. I removed the door chime module because that was annoying and i was going to do that anyway. Now i am dealing with the dome lights staying on. When i remove fuse #9 under the dash the lights turn off however it also cuts power to the radio. Is there anything i can do WITHOUT just taping over the door jam swithes to have my radio work and doors off that is easy. i dont mind oulling a fuse everytime but i want my radio to work.

One solution is to remove each door plunger to disconnect and cover one wire.

There is a connector behind the kick panel on each side of the vehicle for their respective door switch. Disconnect the plug and the switch is bypassed. I have mine pulled out so I can reach down and unplug each side when I take the doors off. Easy to hook back up when the doors go back on.

^ That may be easier because jamb switches can be difficult to access if there is not a threaded retainer visible.

Do you know what the connector looks like? i took the passenger side kick panel off to pull out the grommet to put quick connectors on the the door wires because i have power locks, windows, and speakers. You are saying there's a connector that i unplug and that cuts power to only the dome lights?

I was thinking of taking apart the overhead console and putting a switch there so it will turn off the dome lights in the console and light by the hatch when i want and then i will be set.

I know exactly what the connector looks like. In the summer I disconnect it couple times a week. Can I describe it? Looks like a connector. It's black.

Seriously, there are only so many connectors behind the kick panel. Open one door, dome light turns on, disconnect connectors on that side until dome light shuts off. Repeat on other side.

Remove the door switch itself from the jam with its respective sized socket, unplug the connector from the back of the switch. Should fix your issue.

Switch should look like this.

I really wanna do a removable door mod once ive got everything sorted and shes running strong. To those of you who have done it on a 97+ would you recommend it? or is it too much pain to be worth it?

I mostly want to be able to take my doors off for rolling around town on nice weekends and wheeling but not an everyday sort of thing.

I found the door jam switch connector and unplugged it, it's all good now. The only pain for the "mod" is if you have a bunch of wires in your doors for windows, locks, etc. other than that it's easy. Unplug a few wires and lift the door off

I know they have these plunger hold springs for Wranglers, unsure if they would fit an XJ, although one person felt very adamantly that they don't work.
You might be able to fab something similar up that does work though

I got 97 xj and the doors coming off is no problem if u do the lift up mod. I did the drive out pin way first it was terrible. both ways r on youtube. the unplugging of the wiring harness for the door can be a pain more so on the passenger door because of the fuse box but the payoff is worth it. nice to be able to do when its 95 out and u r only going about 3mph with no ac lol.
