Default Reman engines?

Hey ya'll I found 4 pieces of a piston skirt on my oil pan the other day.... so I'm looking for options on a new engine. I live in an apartment and can't bring an engine stand in my kitchen coz it'll break the tile. Most I can do is a day swap in the parking lot.... and even though I'm an auto tech my company is strictly mobile so I have nowhere to build one and I'm for sure not doing it outdoors in the desert where I live. I can't even imagine the sand that would enter the engine while working on it lol.... anyway I'm looking for replacement engine options and would like to know if yall have had any success and with what companies. I've read good and bad on everything I've looked at but trust ya'lls first hand experience over Google any day. Even considered a used one but I'm pretty sure irk be same thing I just broke so not too excited about that. I miss my jeep already so I'm kinda in a hurry but don't want trash under the hood. Thanks for any replies in advance

I’d find a good machine shop or a speed shop. You’ll get excellent quality and longevity cheaper or in a similar price range. Depends what you want. I couldn’t recommend any of the big reman companies out there and sleep well that night. The only drop in engine I could recommend is a Golen. They’re pricey and there’s a waiting list. Probably two things you didn’t want to hear. It’s an option tho. Good luck.

Man they want more than a reman engine with no where near the same warranty at either a speed shop or machine shop and the cost is way higher. I'm looking at powertrain products as they use the recast 0331 head and newest design anti friction coated pistons plus latest design internals to fix all the factory flaws and have a 5 year million mile warranty with an option of a 7 year one . I've spoken to a few local guys that have used the same engine to keep their xjs running and they have zero complaints and they make a bit more power than the factory ones. Machine shops here ain't very good quality from the work I've seen firsthand while working on the repair shops. I'll be calling the one machine shop I've used here in town Monday and consider warranty, cost and wait time but the easiest thing for me is the quick swap, as I stated I have nowhere to work on it really besides the parking lot of my apartment complex. My company is awesome it's just being a mobile tech has that one disadvantage

Good used motor? crate motor? have yours rebuilt? many options, budget dictates all. figure how much you want to spend, then go shopping.

I know all my options. As I've stated in shopping for advice from anyone that has bought a reman engine/ crate motor as you said..... there ain't no good used ones around here. Machine shops are more expensive than the drop in reman motor and the work I've seen firsthand has been shoddy. As stated in my original post my options are a quick swap as my company is strictly mobile so I have nowhere to rebuild it myself. I'm looking for answers from people that have bought a reman engine their firsthand experience with it

I have a Chysler built motor replacement. works fine, no problems. it was replaced near 20 years ago. cant vouch for qualty of todays Chysler replacements, then again if it were only 6 months old, Id not have enough use of it to vouch for longitivity.

If breaking tiles is your only issue on rebuilding yourself, you could remove the steel wheels from the engine stand and install rubber wheels. Ive changed several engines and it still takes me 2 full days for a complete replacement...usually i do it myself, but a 2nd person might quicken things up. I rebuild myself so i cant recommend a rebuilder for you. I have run several engines into the 200+ K range and never busted a skirt..any idea why? If the head is off , how badly damaged is that cyl? How are the other cyls? You could always just replace that one piston if everything else seems ok. Not the ideal repair but for 200 bucks you would have a functioning engine with not much else to lose except a weekend and many beers....unless there is more extensive damage. When you drained the oil out of the pan, was it "hot wheels metallic" or normalish....lets you know if there was just big chunks which didn't circulate or dust which contaminated everything. Pull the rod bearings for that piston...are they wiped out...if not then minimal contamination. Im not sure of the exact reason for a skirt, but how did you know there was an issue before you dropped the pan. Also, what year...and how many miles....not that it really matters

Golen is criminally overpriced and they are not active anymore in the Jeep straight 6 community. Titan is reasonably priced and active in the community. Titan is responsible for the production of double roller timing kits for the late model camshaft thrust plate blocks. The crate engine route is unforgiving no matter who you buy from however. If the engine fails prematurely, do not expect any seller to honor any type of warranty. As long as you understand that before you buy the engine, you'll have a good experience.

So I probably of no help to you right now. But I have been eyeing buying my long block for several years. Something in my drive train started giving me major concerns last June on one of my trips. My XJ has been sitting ever since. Mainly because I really don't want to tear it apart twice. So for my birthday I am planning on spoiling myself by ordering from S&J Engines out of Washington state. Like I said did some research for the past three years and they have the best warranty of them all. But I personally have never known someone who has bought from them. I haven't been very active on the forums but if I go through with it I will get more active on both this and the other one I use.

Drop a sheet of plywood on the floor then put the engine stand on that!

Well.......I ordered the s&j 4.7l stroker engine and will be porting my throttle body and intake, installing 12 hole 24lb injectors, ripp mods viper coil a header and maybe a little more lol. I thought the same about plywood on the tiles to keep from breaking them, only bad thing is I got about 2 and a half months left to wait for the engine to be built. I also got myself the badlands apex synthetic line winch and some recovery gear, Ironman rear shackle relocation kit and hopefully a rear bumper if I can find the money before the engine gets here. Imma keep it forever and could not find a stock engine anywhere so I just went for it. Been very depressed without my rig to go unwind in, I plan on offering recovery and trail repair service here in El paso coz as far as i know there's nobody that does, they game people that'll come yank you out with a chain for free but ya'll know they be messing up stuff and possibly hurting someone. I'm excited but still sad coz it's just sitting there lol. Do yall know of any steel 15in beadlocks that's ain't more than I paid for the jeep to begin with? And thanks for the replies ya'll. Who else loves their xj?!

24 lb injectors will not be big enough. As a general rule ...your injectors must go up in size the same percentage as your increase in displacement. I run 27 lb injectors in my stroker and they flow and perform nicely..4.0 to a 4.7 is almost 20 % so you must increase your stock injectors by 20% also

Just dropped a Titan engine in mine, very happy with the turnaround and quality so far.

Just for anyone browsing this thread, never ever ever ever go with ATK

Dang everyone I called said they didn't have cores to be able to build me one. From some of the stuff I read atk titan and lkq are all from the same supplier. Titan is the company that sends em all out. I pulled my intake off today so I can slowly start porting all that and getting ready to finish the build once I get the engine here. And as far as the injectors size. I hope it'll be aight coz I already ordered the other ones. Do you have a part number for the 27s you used?
