Regearing XJ...Couple of Questions
2001 XJ, AW4 w/3.55's 4.5" RC 32.11.50's
So, I am looking at regearing from 3.55 to 4.10's. This is my DD but I do use the 4WD fairly often as I am at my deer lease every other weekend. I DO NOT rock crawl or get agressive with it. Our roads get muddy and we have alot of sand so I mainly use it to go in straight lines on relatively level ground.
The 3.55's make my jeep a dog and I drive about 1800 miles a month on the interstate. I am thinking the 4.10's are gonna bring me a little closer to the power band without eating into mileage like 4.56 or 4.88's would.
From what I understand, in the D35 in the rear I can go to 4.10's without changing my carrier. I KNOW that I have to change the carrier on the D30 front if I leave it open BUT I plan on putting a lunchbox up there (along with one in the rear). Since the spiders go bye-bye do I still have to get a new carrier in addition to the ring and pinion?
I know everyone thinks the 30 & 35 are POS but I just don't wheel hard enough to justify the mega bucks involved with going to 44's. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes you still would have to change the carrier on the 30. Why don't you get a Chrysler 8.25 axle for the rear? It's much more stronger than the 35 and most of the time it won't cost as much as a 44 would.

Does it have ABS?
I think the cost Would even out in the end if you found a complete 8.25 with 4.10, and gut the gears, carrier, ect. from the 4.10 D30. That way you're not paying for a complete front axle. Just My .02

If you made big money like the guys over at GDST you could buy an 8.25 easy (just kidding, hi Clint).
I have an 8.25 on a parts vehicle I'm about to scrap on Saturday. Let me know of you want it.
