Regearing to 4.56 on 4.5' with 33's

Hey guys looking to re gear my 8.25 to 4.56
I have a 4.5 on 33's so I figure that needs to change.
Any suggestions on which to get and/or where to get, if someone through the forum may know someone. . .?
Also could I get away with just the back axle for now? Obviously not using 4wd. . .
Thanks all!

Also would a locker eliminate the need to re-gear?
I plan to add an auto locker eventually. . . Or maybe sooner if the case is such.

I'm assuming you have an aw4 (I'm on the app, no sigs/info) and with your 33s you're not happy with the drivability on stock 3.55 gears. 4.56s will be a good option if you plan to stay on 33s. A locker alone will not help with gearing if that's what your asking. You may want to consider locking at the same time as regearing to save install cost/time. I don't know what you do with your xj but I would wait to regear both axles because I don't see the of having a (lifted) jeep that can't be put in 4x4.

As to where to buy look in the vendor section. I was going to get my gears from serious Offroad but superior was being dumb so I ended up getting Yukon go the rear and USA standard from the front from seven springs customs. Rumor is the cheap eBay gears are low quality and noisey.

Its a DD but I'm out here in CO and want it to be fairy capable. I may just wait for both but really feel weak with the 3.55 and feel its hard on the tranny

a crawl box would eliminate the need for a regear. but that'll cost more than a regear
check out my build. I'm putting together a 4.5" on 33's and 4.56's right now. maybe it'll give you some ideas

I've decided to do it all at once. lockers and gears. that way I only ever need to open the diff once. less hassle in the future but it costs more now

Never a good idea to regear one axle. Why would you make the 4wd usless? Plus, your looking at a lot of trouble if you put it in 4wd w/ 3.55/4.56. Randy's Ring & Pinon and a gazzillion others. Install the locker at the same time (on the rear first)

Serious Offroad, RWKHausSupply and JeepHut are vendors here that sell em. I'm sure there are others but thats what i can think of off the top of my head. Search google, search here, figure out what would suit your needs best

yeah RWKhaus had the best prices on carrier and install kit and shipped fast. then I think randys RP had the D30 ring gear for $180. really good prices

THare22 06-21-2012 04:08 PM

Do I need a new carrier?
I'm looking at RWK and would his package give me everything I will need?
Thanks guys

well here is an idea:

i will be in denver on july 4th and I will have a 8.25 that has 4.56 gears already installed in it and ready to bolt under yours ready to sell!! Id like to get $300 for it. its currently under my 96xj, however im upgrading to a dana 44 right before i leave on my trip to denver............

hit me up, just an idea!

THare22 06-21-2012 06:45 PM

The front is dana 30 and back 8.25 are all those parts correct?

THare22 06-21-2012 06:47 PM

Hmmm that could be a possibility right now I'm leaning toward what Robert has because he will include a locker thanks though

your front axle is a high pinion dana 30 reverse cut. all the links I gave you included everything you need to get 4.56 gears
if you can get his 8.25 for $250 then you're golden. and also ready for some lockers

If I was you i would be all over this offer. You won't get parts to regear for 300 hardly. If its not locked you can throw an Aussie in for around 300 and be set.
