rear shock question HELP!
i have a 98 cherokee sport and i'm replacing the rear shocks. i got the old shocks out. went to put in my new RC shocks and they won't fit. it looks like part of the old shock was still there so my dad started grinding and chizzling to get it out. i think its actually supposed to be there. its like a lip right after the thread on the lower shock mount. What do i need to do to get the shocks on?

to me it sounds like part of the mount, that is supposed to be there.
is it just a tight fit, cause you need lube to help get them on.
is the hole in the bushing just way to small?
IIRC mine i had to grease like i said and use a rubber mallet to get it on.

i just did an rc install and had same problem. there is a sleeve for the bushing built onto the bolt. the rc bushing was way to small. i nocked the metal center out of it and drilled the rubber out just enough to hammer on. it took forever

the metal sleeve inside the bushing is the same size as the bolt after the threads. what should i do? Yes, i have thought of drilling the sleeve out. but on the bolt that i've already ruined i think im gonna have to drill the whole bolt out. any suggestions or better ideas?

with the condition that bolt is in now i would say just drill out the mount or knock out the stud and put a high grade bolt in there that fits through the bushing sleeve

Yep, chop that stud off and poke a 1/2'' grade 8 bolt and nut through there.I had one break off once and had to do that.Just step drill till you get up to 1/2''.I think it was 3'' long.Or chop it off and weld a stud or bolt back on.

okay so after a morning of work today, i've got my rear shocks done! I had to knock the metal sleeves out of the shocks. as for the bolt that was torn up, i smoothed it out with a grinder and just put the shock on that way. it works great!
