rear shackle replace, upper inside nuts

rear shackle replace, upper inside nuts
cant access top inner rear nut do i have to remaove trailer hitch? please give some insight

As in the other thread, you shouldn't need to access that nut unless it broke away from the unibody frame. Those nuts are welded on and rarely break lose. If it did, remove the rear bumper (pull the black plastic strip out between the hatch and bumper and you'll have access to the rear bumper bolts. There's a small opening that you can then get a wrench into to put a wrench on the nut. This would be a great time to enlarge that opening a little if you want. If it's just a matter of the shackle bolts being stuck, lots of PB Blaster or heat and a breaker bar.

re upper inside rear shackle nut
thank you so much for the info! i pulled the rear bumper found the small access hole, made it larger, that allowed me to get to that inside nut. only one side was broken free of the inner frame, the other side with some love came out ok. Iam so used to working on my cj5 that this whole thing had me stumped! thank you for your info! I will still be doing upgrades to this xj and all things I can learn are much appreciated! cj5's rock but are not as comfy inside.
