I went to the junkyard and pulled a couple front driveshafts from XJ's ($35 each). Rebuilt one with new ujoints and such, and ran it. Kept the other for a spare in case I ever broke one. Ran that shaft for 2 years (4.5" lift on 35's) and about 30k road miles and countless offroad trips. Never had a problem and well less than half the price of a new Tom Woods or comparable shaft, even after rebuilding.

If money is a concern, definitely go with a front shaft from a yard. I ran mine that way for awhile and it was fine. Still have that for a backup.
I got a Tatton's driveshaft and it is beefier than the stock front shaft. Still about 1/2 the cost of the Woods.
If money is no object, a Woods is probably the nicest you are going to get.

Money is always a concern.
Hadn't heard of using a front shaft on the rear. I guess since yall have done it, there is no length issue or anything.
I owe. I owe. Its off to the junkyard I go.

Depends on the SYE and the type of mounting. I used the dirtboundoffroad hack-n-tap which gave me the same yoke as the front output, and since the distance to the yoke on the rear axle was pretty close, I just used another front shaft. At some point I might get a Woods or something beefy but for what I do this is plenty.

A stock shaft works with the IRO hack n tap also as long as the length is right. What do you have?
I want a set of these over the Tom Woods.

I currently have a 3" lift on 31s, but am getting my 2015 list together because I am wanting to go with a 4.5" lift on 33s.
I do light trail riding and don't drive it hard. I know my limitations and try to stay within the limits of the cheaper parts I use. But I still have a TON of FUN.
My budget is small so I can't get anything fancy. I think a hack n tap and front CV shaft on the rear is the route I will be taking.
Thanks you guys

I also have the IRO Hack n Tap setup with a front DS. Haven't had a single problem with it. Make sure you buy the jig that they sell. It will make your life a lot easier. An added benefit is that both of your DSs will be the same... Meaning you can carry only one spare and cover both.

That is a good point about only needing one spare. thanks for the tip.

I'm running a Dave's Custom driveshaft a seller on eBay he builds them for XJ's. I'm at 4 1/2" of lift also and mine cost $199, he does nice work and quick delivery.

thats a good price, i just had a stock front lengthened for around 150, but it still has old u-joints etc....
