Rear Axle Squeak is confusing.
1992 Jeep Cherokee Limited
Rear axle is a Dana 35 non-C clip
3 inch RC lift
I have the squeak I get on my jeep when it gets hot, it’s a revolutionary squeak, so it only squeaks once per revolution. It only happens when it gets hot. If I lightly press the brakes the squeak goes away. But after about 15 minutes of that it always squeak. The squeak changes pitch when I accelerate or turn. All new U-joints, it Has all new drum brake components, I originally thought it was a wheel bearing or axle issue, run out was about .0016. That seemed a bit excessive to me so I replaced the axles along with the wheel bearings and all the seals. I didn’t see any excessive play in the carrier or the pinion. One thing I did notice is the left rear drum brake gets about 60 to 80° hotter than the right rear drum brake. When I remove the rear drums, I don’t see any signs of rubbing or glazing on the surfaces of the shoes or the drum.
I’ve tried backing off the brakes to where they have zero resistance when I spin them by hand, and to my surprise it doesn’t make a difference. I’m Banging my head against the wall on this one.
What else do you guys think I should check?
