Default Quick! Years Of Bronco Coils Used For A Lift!

In my "iso junkyward upgrades" thread I was told I can use 90's 4x4 Dakota leafs and F150/Bronco coils to get 4.5 inches of lift.

Well I got some Dakota leafs from a buddy so that was cool

Now there is a guy parting an '89 and '90 Bronco on craigslist that will sell the coils real cheap and I need to know if all the years use the same ones and if that will work!

Thanks!

In my last thread someone posted a big list of jy upgrades and it says f150/bronco coils 4-4.5" lift, I guess it does say "'79ish" though

so these from a 89 or 90 wont work? it needs to be a late 70's?

thanks

well i found this great writeup and info
http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...udget_Lift.htm

It is saying that the f150 coils only add 2" ?? Perhaps I was misinformed in my previous thread. Also says that grand cherokee coils will provide same height with better ride and flex. So I will have to use these and 2" spacers I guess.

In a way thats good though because their isa like 50 gc's at my local jw and I bet theyll be cheeeeaap.

Anything bad about using spacers?

So posjeep staid that the f150 coils lift around 3.5" inches now. why is their so many different opinions? or is it cause some coils are really worn out or all jeeps are different or what?!

still want some more confirmations on the years, and how much lift "you think" the f150/bronco coils give

well a big factor is the fact that you/we are using used coils. a lot depends on the use and "SPRING" left in the coil. So when its used....how used is it? Also, when you hear f-150, bronco, is it for the 6cylinder f-150 or the v8, is it a small block 302-351 or is it a big block 400 or 460. Does it even matter? i believe the 79 year 150 and bronco was the last year of that body style, meaning 80 was the first year for that body style. Did they keep the suspension the same, or did they change it.

I would honestly tell you to give it a shot, buy the 80s coils...30 bucks? your not out a lot and resell them if need be.

There is more than just a body style change from 79-80 fords. The Twin I-Beam suspension/front axle came out too (dana 44 IFS). Then you also have to deal with the fact that they made a regular half ton f150/bronco, and a heavy half ton f150/bronco. 1980 was also the first year they started building non solid frames to lessen the weight. I have a 1990 heavy half bronco whos springs would easily add 3-4 inces of lift to my 90 xj.

The heavy halfs (as far as Ive ever seen) had dual front shocks and stock steering stab. Im not sure if they all do, but the ones Ive owned all had a stock rear locker as well. 4th vin position E for the 6-10 Klb GVWR. Note that the axels are the same on both 150/bronco types, just a heavier suspension was used.

Using a pack from an s15 high serria stacked xj s10 s10 xj s10 and V8 GC fronts I ended up with 4" in back and 3.5" in front. The coils I got looked brand new so I assume thats why I got some much in the front. I was orignally planning on doing a 2" spacer to level it but its close enough now.

my old cherokee had 78 bronco coils when i bought it, (2 inch lift) and 2.5 inch spacers with a bastard pack in the rear to level it out. but it was a very harsh ride up front. rear flexed good tho.

i wouldn't do the ford coils, unless you want poor ride quality with no flex.

find a set of rubicon express coils for the front and do a bastard pack with either dakota or s10 leafs and use the stock xj main leaf and toss the whole s10 pack under it, with the main eyelets cut off.
we had to drill out the center holes in the dakota leafs, big pita, but the s10 leafs went in easy.

I've heard that using the ford coils are terrible, they don't flex and are a very harsh ride. go for the grand cherokee coils with a 2" spacer. be sure to get front coils from a 4x4 v8 grand, or you won't get any lift at all.

Go with the grand springs. F150 spings suck. Also if your going 4 inches you need to order control arms lower ones and a track bar. I have 5 and didnt and my track bar is shot and i get death wobble. I have the parts to fix it just havent yet. Also when you wheel if you dont change your sway bar endlinks your going to bend them. Mine are bent into the coil springs. Go to rough country you can get the extra parts cheap and the work pretty good. I ordered the 70 dollar quick dissconects to just need time to put them all one. Your better off just ordering a 4.5 inch kit for how much money your going to spend. Or the 3 inch rc lift i had that originaly and loved it only need to do minor trimming or leave it and just hear plastic rub when you go in reverse or turn really hard with 31s

another Craigslist option is TJ front coils, they will net you 1" less. example: 4" TJ springs will net you 3" on a XJ. Just a suggestion because ive seen a few TJ lifts around here.
