Default Question about coolant temp sensor

I have a low option 95 cherokee that only has dummy lights. I'm putting in a mechanical coolant temp gauge because I overheated the other day and had no idea until I saw the steam coming from the radiator cap! The light didnt even turn on haha.

My question is, can I use the stock dummy light sensor port for my mechanical gauge, or does that sensor send information to the computer?

I've read a few posts of people doing this and not having a problem, but I'm mostly just curious. I have also heard of an available port near the back of the head on the drivers side? I looked a little bit today, but couldnt find anything. If anyone has any information about any of these questions, it would be much appreciated. My work will also be happy to get my eyesore jeep out of the shop and back in the parking lot hahaha.

You can cut the upper rad hose install an adapter then a gauge np. Lotta cooling questions on the forum today.

check this link http://www.jeepsrus.org/index.asp?p=...Codes_XJ_YJ_95 number 44. I would guess that it does report but removing it won't do much.

I put a autometer temp gauge in mine, I used the factory port on the back driver side of the head. I've recently swapped in a gauge cluster from a Cherokee that came with the gauges instead of idiot lights, it was a easy swap and you'll also get a tach, oil pressure and volt gauge. you will need to swap out the oil pressure and temp. Sending units for ones that work with gauges. You'll need a gauge cluster from a I think it's 92-96 as the earlier ones have a cable driven speedo and a '95 dose not.
