Check out post #67 in the thread below. I can give you details as to what is involved to repair the oem rails. It was a little time consuming but with 2 people it's not all that bad. Best to go ahead and bite the bullet adn do the repair before installing gutter mounts. Bad oem rails will also cause leaks since they hold water.Originally Posted by Disoriented Hillbilly
Gutters are healthy as a horse. Rails on top have some rust issues. Oem roof rack would MOS DEF get ripped off. Think my chances are better w the guttr mnts. Would like to repair oem's but that seems real involved and i just dont have that much time right now. Bolt on sounds nice. I will however consider this info when installing. Will try to reinforce i stall somehow to prevent it from being "claimed by the trail"!

Fixed bars. Actually some time ago. Orderex some rectangle stock and "re-configured" gutter clamps. See my build thread for details. It could now be an extra recovery point! Originally Posted by Disoriented Hillbilly

Sorry..I know I'm way late to this thread, but just installed these on my XJ about a month ago.

I have Thule gutter mounts, with their M.O.A.B. basket (with extension). Ive loaded up the basket pretty heavy for camping, tailgating and moving and have never had an issue. It also had no issue supporting an average sized full grown male laying on it.
