I don`t understand why some hate this idea so much.
If you save $10 a fill up you can then afford at the end of the year that long arm kit you`ve been wanting.

BTW here are 2 articles I was able to quickly find that show inceases in gas milage by going to electric fans.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/el...20/index3.html

http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoElectricFan.htm

the cherokee wasnt designed for gas mileage... never was in any year model... each of these things listed also UP horsepower... which in return does not lead to gas milage... the only engine i know of that you can build with tons of mods and get better mileage is a diesel...

Ive got a 03 sierra Z71... its got a cam, electric fans, headers, intake, exhaust, 3.73's, under drive pulley, ported and polished throttle body, full tune, and im sure im missing something... ALL claim to make better fuel mileage... yet i went from 18mpg's to 13 mpgs...

the threads where people got better gas mileage were them driving like a bat outta hell on one tank... adding a COI then driving real lightly to see what kind of mileage it changed... bam... i gained 5mpgs from a intake... and ill tell them all there full of crap...

im not stopping anyone from doing anything to there jeeps on here... not everyone is going to agree... all i can do is prove my point to the best of my ability with the experience i have... i dont expect you to ever agree with me on this and change your thought of mind... thats asking a lot from anyone... but everyone has a right to post what they think about a subject and if you dont like it then maybe forums are not for you... the readers can read the whole thread and take from it what they want... thats the point of a forum... nowhere on here does it say they will go to jail for adding a COI on there jeep trying to get gas mileage...

lets do some math with this...

new electric fan from say a LS1 model car... $100 shipped
Wiring, relays, switches, thermostats and everything to run them $75
a way to attach them $15
the roughly two hours labor to install at a normal mechanics price (whether you do it yourself or not labor still should always be added to costs) $80 an hour...

so for a REGULAR (not junkyardin price as i know it could be cheaper but regular ole costs) your looking at $350 for a "new" fan setup...

you gain lets say 2mpg... Gas here is about $3.50 a gallon... thats $7 a tank of gas you save...

It would take 50 tanks of gas to make back the money you spent on electric fans... at a tank a gas a week thats over a year to make your money back... now lets add the costs of bored TB's... exhaust... injectors and do all the same... it would take like 5 years to recoup the money... the average person keeps a vehicle on 4 years...

how is all this cost effective? its not... buy a geo metro XFI that makes 65 mpgs for a grand... drive it the average 4 years... sell it for a grand... only money lost is what was spent on maintenance... and ya cant count that because we didnt count it on the XJ scenario above...

just provin my point.... take it as you like... but my point isnt for any individual its for anyone who reads this in the next 20 years... lol

However, bypassing the AC compressor won't do much. And good luck with a reasonable, reliable electric water pump.

I never once said that the clutch fan wasn't somthing to address. I will say that its a good thing to remove if you can, but not something everyone can just go out and do. And the gain at 3% isn't phenominal.

Although the Taurus fan will find its way into my 87. More for the cooling benefit. :D

PS good luck on fitting that taurus fan cracka... well at least the one i had was so fat it wouldnt fit between the water pump and radiator... had to put it all back together...

Well funny thing:

Before I put on my cone filter it would take me 3/8' to 1/4 of a tank on the highway to go 150 miles. Driving roughly 73 mph and NOT stepping on it hard.

I put on my cone filter PLUS a huge Thule box thats 2 feet tall. PLUS the speed limit was raised to 75mph and I drove like a bat out of hell doing 75-85 the whole way, stomping on the gas & passing people left and right. I got to my destination and instead of having my gas gauge read 5/8's, it read a hair higher. So OBVIOUSLY that cone filter made a big difference. I cant wait to make the trip again without that Thule box and go "regular" on the gas. Im betting I gain at least one full 1/8th of a tank if not more.

Were our XJ's made for good gas mileage: No. Nobody is arguing that. But because some dont think that there are inexpensive mods that can get you better mileage or that they arent worth it, at $3.55 a gallon just about EVERYTHING is worth it.

If someone can gain 3 mpg on a $100 dollar mod, thats an extra 60 miles per tank. If youre getting 15mpg and go to 18mpg, thats 300 miles to 360 miles on a tank, and at $3.55 a gallon, thats $14.20 a tank extra. So 6 tanks and Im almost even. For me, thats 6 weeks and my parts paid for.

Yeah, makes absolutely no sense.

Thanks everyone I did learn a thing or two I will try boring and maybe bigger injectors not. Sure which of these many things I will do this is my daily and I drive quiet a bit and I don't want any other car or truck lol I love my jeep just trying to get the most out of it the jeep has 107xxx miles on her and I want to keep it around for awhile so a little better gas will help me alot

I agree with everything stated by huntingman2706217 and Gee oh Dee (yet again).

That is all I have to contribute.

Whats bad is when u buy a renix 4x4 comanche FOR the better gas mileage like i just did... Lol... Im lovin the savings and i still get to drive something i love and know a lot about... The Z71 has a whipple supercharger waiting to go on next! Itll be a weekend warrior for sure... Although i want a shop so id sell my Z in a minute so i can build a shop... Pass the word... Lol... 327hp at the 33's right now ;)

milage

Have 8 metros in the extended family... (best one - wife's LXI gets 54 tops BTW), but unfortunately metros won't go where I have to drive every day. Hence the Cherokee. As a newbie Cherokee owner, really enjoy and appreciate all the ideas for gas milage improvement I'm seeing here. Won't try them all, but having turned a wrench or two in my time, will probably try any that sound like they have a reasonable chance of adding some fuel efficiency. The cherokee may not be known for good gas milage, but then I'm not shooting for metro milage either. Just somewhere well above my very thirsty V8 pickup over the same commute will be great.
