Problems with Cherokee...Help???
Hey All, I just recently lifted my 2000 Cherokee (4.5 inches and 33s). I know have a rubbing/grinding noise coming from my transfer case only when I am coming off the gas around 40mph. Any Ideas? SYE? Pretty new to the Cherokee world, and thought maybe someone could help. (It is not tires rubbing, by the way, but sounds like that) Rear diff looks good and no leaks or anything coming from transmission or TC.

Did your lift kit come with anything to correct DS angles? I.E. cross member drop kit or rear axle shims? It sounds like you are experiencing straight up U-joint vibes. If you have the cash for a SYE that is the proper way to fix it.
Hey Buck, Thanks for your input. That is what I was thinking. The kit did come with a 1 inch drop for the cross member and rear shims. All the research that I have done says the SYE should fix it. I just want to make sure that is what the problem is before I drop the money. Is that common for the problem to only occur when slowing down?

Well, you may have something else going on then, Bro. When I first lifted my Jeep I installed a 4.5" kit from Rusty's. It too came with 1" X member drop and 4 degree axle shims. That pretty much cured all my vibes.
Have you gotten under your Jeep and gave your rear shaft a good side to side shake at both ends? I ask this because if you had a questionable U-joint before installing the lift. It would definitely make more noise once the lift is on and the U-joints are working at the increased angle.

I ran my 4.5" lift with 32s for 4 years before I increased up to 6 inches and 33s. I eventually installed a SYE when I could afford to. I wished i had done a lot sooner. If you are lifting and going to use an XJ for a hardcore trail rig. A SYE is definitely the way to go.
The SYE and Tom Woods driveshaft is installed. The XJ is definitely better on the road. Lets see how it does on the trail. The guys at Tom Woods were on top of it too, they got the driveshaft to me in a hurry and easy install.
