ok well im sure im not the first person in here who has had problems with their alternator and mud

i have a buddy who has a 93 zj and has gone through multiple alternators because its just a trail rig and has been in plenty of mud

no i took my 89 xj out for its first trip today and i know i shouldnt have hit one mud hole as fast as i did...but hey its just a trail rig and it was fun

but.....i cooked my alternator, it charged for maybe an hr after that and then it just stopped charging and ended up running on the battery till it died also

so this brings up the question on how do you guys protect your alternator from mud and such so that you dont cook them constantly?

my buddy took some rubber matting and put it under the motor to help keep the mud from coming up from the bottom but it only helped so much before his became covered

any ideas on how to protect the alternator more or move it or just something so that when i put a new one on my jeep im not gonna fry it again
