I picked up a 96 cherokee classic, 108k miles, generally good shape, 1400 bucks.. It has some issues to take care of. My biggest concern is the "fender trimming" on the rear, hidden up under some badly fitting flares. They trimmed the rear fenders waaaaay up past the pinch welds, leaving a nice gap exposed. If I "finness" the two panels back together, and weld them up, should I be ok? or Is there a bigger problem hiding for me?
The other thing, the rockers are GONE, I saw a few things online of people putting 2x4 steel tubing in place of it, does anyone have a good write up with tons of pictures on how to do this?
Other than that, it needs basic suspension refresh, tie rods/ball joints/shocks. The rest of it is clean, runs great, shifts great, 4x4 works great, came with like new cragar D hole steel wheels wrapped in 31s with great tread left.
Looking forward to building myself a nice DD/trail runner.

Yes you can weld the rear back together without any problem. I'd go ahead and trim them more while it's already cut so you can run bigger tires.
As for the rockers, weld in 2x6, not 2x4. Plenty of write ups on it.

Mine are cut past the the weld, but of course it was welded before we cut the original weld. Make sure to get it nice and tight so crap doesn't get in there when wheeling.
