Pre '97/ Post '97 A/C cooling fan CFM's
I have an '89 Cherokee LTD that I'm having cooling issues with, AGAIN
I have a '91- '96 style open cooling system, w/ a 3 core radiator.
I'm considering changing to an aluminum radiator and fan upgrade(s).
Any other ideas???
Per the subject, does anyone know the CFM rating on the pre & post '97 factory A/C electric cooling fans?
The newer fan "looks" more efficient, but I'm not interested in looks. . . .
Thanks,
Fred

The 97 up has a better designed fan blade, making it pull more air than the older style.
First, make sure your mechanical fan is still operating correctly. To check, with the motor cold, spin the mech. fan with your hand. Remember how little effort it takes to spin it. Then, get the motor up to operating temperature. Turn the engine off & spin the fan again. You should notice more resistance when you turn the fan when the engine is hot.
Also lots of people like the Ford Tarus fan mod.

my '89 had bad cooling problems, I replaced the water pump and radiator, I kept it the closed system, & replaced the clutch fan with the stock efan from a '97+, put both efans on a switch, it wouldn't go over 210* with the fans off & stayed around 180* with both fans on. I also put a durango radiator cap setup on my upper hose.
