Default Poor fitting receiver fixes?

Hey guys I have a bike rack converted tire carrier. It works just fine but because the bike rack was on the low end there is a lot of play in the tube that fits in my receiver. What do yall recommend I do to fix this?

I think the reason it was made like that is so hitches don't get rusted in. Mines terrible for that. I almost had to rope it to a tree to get it out once.

How much work do you want to do?
less work: Duct tape
more work: welder

Yeah it rattles. It moves up a couple inches when I hit bumps. My receiver tow hook fits snug and has enough room to slide out, but doesn't have what seems like a .25" gap around the perimeter. I don't want it to be permanent so welding to the receiver tube is out of the question

I believe he was referring to welding to the carrier side, adding material to take up the gap and grind it until its snug and no longer has as much play, but not so tight it gets stuck....

How narrow do those things get? I'd be worried that if I got the shim in there too good it wouldn't be able to come back out very easily

drill a hole in the top side of the receiver, weld a nut over the hole then run a bolt thru it and tighten it down, the bolt will keep it snug to one end of the receiver and if you want to pull it out just loosen it up, put a coat of grease on the receiver insert to prevent corosion and help keep dirt out

It wedges in your receiver to fill the gap
