Default Planning on going back to an XJ.

Hi Guys, I have had a YJ, TJ, XJ and now a JK. Currently my JK is for sale and Im thinking of going with a XJ again.

This are some of my upgrades that I want.

6.5" Long Arm Kit
35x12.50R15
will be running stock axles as they should be okay to handle up to 35's with some reinforecment parts.
Gears 4.56
Front Aussie Locker
Rear a Full Spool Locker

Questions>?? How much trimming will I have to do to fit the 35's. What kind of back spacing on a 15x8 or a 15x10 would I need?

I've thought about selling my JK as well just so I can get rid of the payment. Trying to find the perfect XJ is proving difficult.

Good choice. You will have to trim a little unless you go with extended bump stops.

Thats one of the main reasons im doing it. Also because I made the mistake of getting an automatic JK I miss the 5 speeds.

Im currently stuck between wanting to go with a 4.5 long arm or a 6.5 Long arm. but I know I do want the 35x12.50R15

I may drive it once or twice a week. More for crawling then anything else.

My rig has 35s on a 6.5inch RE long arm kit and a whole lot of trimming was done. I'll post pics a bit later for you.

Well you will probably end up with a 8.25 in back (which no spools are sold for) or a Dana 35 (which you would want to swap out)

My JKU is such an awesome vehicle for both DD and expedition type travel which is what it is set up for. I love XJ's, but finding the combo of low miles, great condition and the right year is proving to be difficult. I've found a '00 Limited with 109K, but they want $9300 which is a long way from $6K KBB. Sorry for the hijack.

KBB is sort of irrelevant for a clean (I'm presuming) XJ like that. I lucked out on a '98 sport with tasteful modifications (33 Duratracs, 6.5LA, HD steering) for $6,000, but I was prepared to pay 10-11k for a low mileage stock limited.

If it's in Dallas, and the guy that has quite a few for sale, they definitely sell at that price. Most are 60-100k miles and mint.

So guy bit the bullet sold my JK got less then what I expected but still happy I got rid of it. One less car payment. So I found this beauty on Craigs and went to pick it up today.

Details 1995 4.0 with a 5 speed.

Current Mods:
6.5" Full Traction Long Arm
Front Currie "ACOS" Coil Over Spring Adjusters.
Ford 8.8
Solid Diff Covers for both axles
8.8 Truss
Warn winch
Full front bumper
Rear bumper tire carrier combo
Rock sliders
1 Ton steering
Roof Rack
Bunch of off road lights
D30 either spartan or aussie locker.
33" tires.
Not sure what gearing it has will check tomorrow.

The Bad:
either transfer case or transmission is leaking pretty bad. Needs a full tune up. and coolant system needs to be replaced aside from that everything works pretty good.

I would of much rather go with the 8.25 then the D35

I was looking for awhile and yes some people where asking just way too much money.

True. Jeeps are going for way more then what blue book is saying they are worth.

I saw one. Guy is asking 4500 has 200k miles. half of the jeep is falling apart due to the rust. I asked what his bottom line price was and he said 3900 not a penny less. I left laughing

Try Ares Fab for the fender and quarter armor. He can weld the tubing on for you as well. The stiffies are Ruff Stuff and you can get them direct from them. HD Offroad also makes frame stiffners.

I guess my biggest issue with going to an XJ is I have dropped $15K into my already loaded Rubicon. I know I won't even get what I owe for the Jeep probably. I don't have the time or energy to strip the Jeep down and sell the bumpers and suspension. I'm not sure I have the energy to research all the things and then install them on an XJ. I will have it paid off in 18 months at the rate I'm going. Once it's paid off I will have 2.5 years left on the warranty and less than 20K miles driven. I have it setup exactly how I want it. I'm able to run a 37" tire on 2.5" of lift so COG is great. I hope nobody minds a pic.
