Pivot pin choice for a tire carrier. Care to comment?
My plan is to use this 1/4" wall 2 x 2 stock for a rail that will fit inside the stock bumper. The pivot will come up through the plastic bumper ends via notching in the plastic.
So far the plan is to make this a non recovery point carrier.
I have a pair of D ring mounts so I may reconsider and reengineer the body mounting.
This pic of parts shows my pivot pin
I haven't started cutting anything yet

The plan is to put the smooth end of this hitchpin in the cross piece mounted to the Jeep. The threads will point upwards and I will put the nut on the threads and tack weld it in place to keep the carrier half from coming off.
I will add a zerk to the barrel piece to keep the pivot greased.
1) Do you suppose this will be strong enough if welded properly?
Its Grade 8 at least.
I plan to lap 2 plates each on the factory 4 bolt bumper mounts and weld the 2x2 to them
2) If I am not adding the D ring mounts to the carrier are the factory bumper mount points strong enough?
I actually have a plan to mount the carrier piece to my hitch as well,
to add strength and negate rotational force from the tire
