THIS IS WHAT I HAVE. I COPIED AND PAST OFF MY TREAD.
Well finally got tired of the back of my jeep being a wreck so I desided to try to organize it a bit.
Here is a shot before.

And after.

Havent figured out if I will carpet it or rino line it. Probly carpet to keep it quieter. So far I have $80.00 in it. Anyway take it easy all.

Ive seen someone mount a 30mm ammo can to the spare tire mount to keep jumper cables, recovery stuff ,etc. Mounts nice and its lockable and doesnt move. And if you got your spare tire mount still its easy

Greets.., what I have done in the past, i.e., Cherokee Mod.#17 2-door, was to take some 2X3's, and build a platform on top of wheel wells, with legs fore, and aft. Sheeted it with 1/2" ply, with a piano hinge utilized in the frontal area, i.e., first third, whereas to reach for stuff not often needed. With a 2" foam pad, and nagahide sheet, I was able to spread out a cheap sleeping bag, and then sleep in mine. Important to keep windows open a wee bit, so as for proper breathing levels, and to prevent condesation from collecting on electrics under the dash, etc. Lowering tailgate, had a dog dish, hibatchi cook thingy in cardboard box, pot, pan, utinsiles to one side in a cardboard box, groceries next in a cardboard box, and tool box, (with another behind it), to the right. Rifle, and fishing pole sandwiched between rear fold up seat, and front seats. Spare rear propeller shaft behind rear fold up seat, on cargo floor, with spare dist. cap/rotor, wires, alternator, fuel pump, etc. Omnivore 'the dog', on top of it all, i.e., the nagahide sheet. Travelled several thousand miles that way, and very comfortable. Spare tire underneath on the 17.., so.., I'd opt to get the spare out of the interior of the XJ, and place to the rear, and use a roof rack and/or basket on top for other handy items for the XJ explorings.
