Default Pbrake cable suggestions??

hey guys...

so, installing my 6.5 LA BDS lift...and i dunno if it was like this before or not, but there seems to be very little slack in the drivers side parking brake cable. That's just sitting level, not sure what any flex would do to it.

suggestions??

thanx

I'd like to find an aswer to this also.. mines tight with 3" of lift.. Thought of fabing a longer ADJUSTER ROD, from some all thread or a real long eye-bolt.

i did that cuz the old one was rusted to rat shyt (had to cut old one off)...but it doesn't change the cable attachment point from stock. Only thing i can see working is a longer cable but unsure of what might work for me. Prob something 8-12" longer??

Summit Racing and Jegs both sell Hot Rod brake cable kits that you cut to your desired length.

Default YJ Cables for XJ 1996 down

E brake cable solution for 1996 and earlier XJ's.

I followed a thread that suggested using two e-brake cables for the passenger side of 1991 and newer Jeep YJ.
NAPA part# 52007522

These were a direct fit on my 1996 XJ and I ran them in a 'X' due to the length.
I am lifted 5". These cables will work for as high as you wish. Should also work for 3" lift.

This is for 1996 and earlier! The cable routing is down the center of the jeep.
1997 the routing changed to one side of the jeep.

cool...nice add-in
makes me think...maybe i'll look at a '96 XJ cable
the extra length of it being center union compared to my d/s union point could give me the extra slack that i need

thanx for stirring my brain cells

<96 is +/- 52l/52r
>97 is +/- 36l/72r

18" longer but if i can absorb the extra length with a re-route it sounds like a good direction to go in...thanx again SteveMongr

now for some u-joint research and i can place an order lol

Good deal. Sounds like a plan coming together.
Are you replacing axle u-joints? 760-x

i'd like to do axle and d-shafts
i'd heard a front will work on a rear with sye, but i'm concerned about the length vs. lift so might just buy 2 new ones (little longer for the rear) and re-build the oem front as a spare in a clinch. You mentioned the spicer 760's for axle and some google-digging said the same for the d/s so guess i'll order me up 5 of them. Again, thanx!!!

Now off to find a reasonable shaft builder lol

Hold on,
The u-joints are not the same for axle and drive shaft. Maybe the size is the same but the design is different and not compatible.
The 760-x uses an 'inner clip'. For axle
The 1310 series 5-153-x uses 'outer clip'. For front and rear d.shafts.
The stock front XJ driveshaft will work for a rear shaft when using a SYE.

Link to jeep driveshaft lengths.

A brand new, heavy duty driveshaft from Tatton's Driveline will cost about $225 delivered. I had a pair but sold them and now use stock shafts. No problems..

thanx once again Steve...
you're saving me money now, i owes ya one

i fired off an email to Adam's last nite, i'll do the same for Tatton's
i don't have the sye in yet so can't get exact measurements, but hopefully one of these guys might be able to figure out what i need with my setup.

so, 2 760-x and 3 5-153-x, or if i just build 3 shafts i'll get 2 & 9

cheers!!!

I can give you the measurement of the hack-yoke..
Rebuilding shafts also involves the centering ball and its bearings. And this is assuming the slip shaft is still tight.
I used my own stock front driveshaft for the rear and it is good for the full range of motion for my suspension. I'm lifted 4.5" to 5" and can compress the rear axle to the stock bottomout position, Driveshaft fits good.

He seems to know the rear length needed, but would like a "lifted" front measurement.

Got my front out today, i'll give it a good once-over and replace what's needed...or the whole thing if needed
or just leave it as is, it'll just be a "lost-cause" rescue shaft anyway

thanx for your help Steve, greatly appreciated
