I just painted mine today. The dash trim that goes around the steering wheel, cd deck, and heat controls was silverish/gray and I just took it off, scuffed it up with sandpaper, and then I actually painted mine with black rocker guard.

I'd love to see some pictures. I was going to use actual paint but I didn't have any black and I got impatient and then saw the rocker guard sitting on a shelf lol. It turned out pretty decent actually and it only took 40 minutes before it was dry and only took one coat.

yeah i used actual paint and just took all the pieces out primed them and hit em with a paint sprayer then used the krylon fusion for plastic clear coat cause it protects it from chipping when you slide your feet on it or or anything like that and once it stops raining here ill post some pictures up

I thought more about it and im still undecided. My jeep (94) is red and the interior is tan so i think if i painted the dash bezel red i think it would look rickety. I changed all my dash lights to red bulbs so everything is red like tach, temps, gas, oil, speed, and gear selector. i just think the red bezel would put it over the top, so if anyone has pictures of a more bold color they would be much appreciated, consoling comments are also welcome lol

To me that's pretty funny because all the stock ones I have ever seen except for the wood grain ones, were all black. Never seen any other color. So you painted yours black, but you could have got one off another XJ (or 1 of the 4 I have laying around) that was stock black.

Back on topic sort of ... I have gone thru 3 different colors in my interior: red, olive drab & now the dash piece is painted beige to match the rest of the dash, while the seat covers are sort of purple (long story). When I get bored again, I'll paint again!

I seriously doubt you are going to get an answer...
