Default ok noob? about sye vs lift height

ok i have started the ordering/ purchasing process to do the 4.5" rough country lift on my depressingly stock truck, and do 32 11.5 r 15 mt....
my question is with a 4.5" kit is the sye a mandatory item or is it " u might need it, u might not?"
and if it is mandatory i would assume that as long as i only drive to work and back (no serious offroading) that i could squeek by with getting it after the install? or should i wait to install untill i have it in hand? thanks i tried to find a post on this and had no luck, although i'm sure one exists.
it didn't dawn on me to ask untill i ordered my kit and am running low on "budget" for the next few weeks.

Ok ty, t case drop is part of the kit, I will invest in sye before I wheel it. Have to buy it soon, I will be itching to UN sway bars. And see what it will do.

With the earlier XJs the tcase drop or SYE is not so critical, but in 95 when the transfercase output shaft housing and bearing/seal was redesigned there is a need to due to driveline vibrations....
The transfercase crossmember lowering is a temporary fix....

I have an 01 with 4.5 inch lift and I'm getting an SYE next month. The tcase drop really helped, but didn't quite do it

You must mean in 97 on up that is when the output shaft on the t-case was changed and made about 3" longer making a shorter drive shaft and causing the pinion angle issue.

yeah I think its 97+. i have a 96, put on a 3.5 kit from RE, really at 4.5. TC drop of an inch, I did it before even driving it, and i have 0 vibes. from what i remember reading in several places, 97 and up tend to give more issues and be more picky about having a tc drop, and that usually wont cure it all, as posted above. I would say at 4.5, the kit will probably sit around 5, you are probably going to definitely need it, the SYE. the TC drop might help, but I would do the SYE as soon as you can, my money ran out, and went 300 over budget with mine so I dont have any funds for a SYE, but its not a nessecity right now.

dirtboundoffroad.com offers a nice HnT kit that actually uses a yoke, vs flange like the RE. Which IMO is better. As you CAN use a stock front d-shaft for a rear shaft. Better bet if you can afford is a custom better shaft. Dirtbound HnT is only 110$-ish and since you have a later model you do not have to pay extra for the flange/seal to keep the fluid in as it is already sealed.

Can you explain the yoke VS flange. I don't understand how you don't have a yoke.

Thanks!! 2 more questions:

1. Whats wrong with the flange style compared to the yoke style?

2. Why can't you us a stock front shaft for the rear with the flange style?

Man a lot of good stuff here. I'm going to gather parts, sit on them until I do more research. Guess I'm selling my spare quad to buy more xj parts LOL
