97 XJ, passengers are always complaining about the outside of their knee banging against the door handle when bouncing around offroad. I took a ride in the shotgun seat yesterday and my right leg is beat all to crap.

Anyone make a padded cover for the handle or has anyone got a home grown fix? It needs to look nice as the inside of my Country is like new and I don't want to duck tape some random padding or foam on it.

Oops misread. I posted about manual window handle..
Doorless modification would work.

Don't drive from that side and if the passenger complains, get them a knee pad.

No one has ever b!tched about it in my 99 XJ and I have rode there myself and never noticed it. In fact I think this is the first time I have ever heard of it mentioned before, has anyone else?

I thought the handle was captured anyway. No way to hurt you.

I haven't...but I'm always behind the wheel, LOL

Go doorless. More fun offroad anyways...

It is not the window handle it is the door handle that you grab to shut the door.

Are you talking about the mount in the door panel you use to close the door and not the door handle you open the door with?

the armrest is already made of vinyl and filled with foam, so nothing will pad that easily. Low speed wheeling will not throw you around. If you are committed to the Dukes of hazard approach off road, then maybe some aftermarket seats and five pint harnesses to keep butts in seats..,

Just remove the handle. Although your windows and locks wont work if one side is disconnected.

Default Such a seemingly simple problem

Yes, I am talking about the black, hard plastic piece that goes from the armrest to the vertical auto window control pad. The piece that you grab to pull the door closed. You can see it in the above pics that were posted (thanks for posting these).

I took a ride on the right side yesterday and apparently some people's size put the outside of their knee at the same height as this handle so that when getting tossed from side to side your knee tends to bump against this. Even when I tried to change the position of my leg, it found its way back to the position where it was banging again the handle. And, yes it is actually sore today.

I wonder if you could cut it out and replace with a paracord handle or something similar.

[QUOTE="toddreg;3079924"]Yes, I am talking about the black, hard plastic piece that goes from the armrest to the vertical auto window control pad. The piece that you grab to pull the door closed. I wonder if you could cut it out and replace with a paracord handle or something similar.[/ The handle kind of blends upwards in one piece so cutting would probably be bad. Para cord brings up an interesting idea. I bet you could wrap para cord around it or even use something softer that would still look good.

ok that's weird, I did something and my response went into the quote. As always, a little too much back spacing is never a good thing.

I was confused for a moment and thought we were in a wheel thread.
