ive got the 242 in my xj now an the 4 lo isnt workin ive tryed puttin it in manually adjusting it ect an no luck so im gonna try to find another one. but my question is im at about 3 inches of lift but im wanting to go 4.5 or 5.5 im not sure yet an i was wondering if the 231 would be a lil better choice any imput will be nice thanks

 

I had a similar problem and I did transfer to the np231. The main reason I did was because there is more np231 cases and there are more sye for them that real sye's Just my two cents.

 

It would only be a better choice if you can't fix or replace yours easily.

I don't mean to bust your thread but, I have a 242 that I bought with the AW4 tranny. I bought it because a friend needed the tranny but, not the case so I kept it. I have a 231 and have no use for it so if you have a hard time finding one let me know, maybe we can work something out. The case came out of a 1999 with 130k miles on it.
