So very true. But Thomas Edison tried over 200 times before creating the light bulb and when asked why he failed so many times he said I did not fail but found 200 ways NOT to make a light bulb.

I wanna swap in the 3.7 from the f150 since I have connections with ford. I know its only a v6 but 300+ horsepower is better than any v8 came close to in 2000 for small suv's. So any ideas on where to start and its good to be on here!
i will say good luck.

but unles you've done something like this you're in for years of work. besides the pretty insane harness needed to run this engine and transmission that you will have to make work. you will also need to figure out how to adapt the drive by wire to the XJ. theres no way around that.

i will say its possible. but for the weekend DIY'r i dont see it happening. a project like this can nickle and dime you into the poor house unless you take shortcuts which just makes the project a hack job. this project may just be over your head.

The 4.0 is a good motor. Turbo it. I know a guy (just like everybody knows a guy lol) with a wrangler did the 4.6 stoker kit and slapped a big turbo on it. Its really fast, he said that it slipped a brand new stock clutch, i mean thats pretty sick. He said it made like 500 HP or something all I know is the thing flew down the highway like a bat out of hell.

Goodluck

The 3.7 is part of the duratec family and not the best thing ford has made either.I would use a 3.8 from a super coupe so its got a blower or maybe the 4.0 v6.

Any modification is possible. Your only limited by finances and your ingenuity. If they can stuff a diesel into a CJ, I don't see why you couldn't with an XJ.

Yep, I replaced the factory original clutch at 215,000 miles, then drove it to KS ans back with a motorcycle and my wifes belongings in the back.

The truck will literally not die. And its a Ford.

Fords 300 was a tough motor. They even have it in tractors and equipment. I thought about it before I settled on a modified 4.2.
