New lift, weird noises
Hi. I have a 98 xj and I recently installed a rough country 3" lift and I kept in my previous 2" spacer in the front in the new lift. I had a 2" block in the back but took it out due to vibration. It drives nice now, no problems. Except there is what sounds like a grinding noise in the front I think. It only does it on the freeway going faster than 40mph that I can tell when I let off the gas it does it for a sec than for a sec when I lightly put on the gas for a sec. Idk what it is, anyone know? Please help! Thanks.

So how high is the rear lifted. It sounds like there could be too much angle on the drive shaft causing it to vibrate. So if I'm reading this correct you had 5" of lift in the rear and then removed 2" and ended up with 3". On a XJ of this year, this is getting on the threshold of needing either a tcase drop or a sye. If at all possible try taking out the rear drive shaft and driving it around, if the vibe is gone this is the cause. If it is still there, then i would do the opposite and take out the front drive shaft and drive it around. If the vibes then are gone, you will most likely need new ujoints. Hope this helps Good Luck.

The rear is 2" in theory. It's a 3" lift it says it's 3 in the front and 2 in the back. The front also has a 2" spacer so the front supposedly has 5" of lift. I have looked and people say it's either u joints or a tcase drop. I would just take out the spacer so it would be gone but I like the lift on it now. But will replacement u joints work or will I have to get a cv joint?

If you have a tcase drop, new ujoints should work. You dont need a cv driveshaft unless you have bad vibes. Then you will need a sye and a cv driveshaft

Ok yea there's no vibration, just grinding in the front of jeep somewhere. Sorry I'm a newbie with lifts and stuff, do you just get a spacer for the tcase drop or what?
