Hi folks,
I have grown so tired of the clunking noise my rear shocks make every time I hit a bump in the road -- one of my upper bushings is totally shot in the back, the other one looks like its been through hell as well. Jeep is currently sitting on a 4.5 Rubicon Express lift kit.

I figure it might just be worth replacing the rear shocks altogether -- they have about 30K miles on them and feel extremely stiff over even the smallest of bumps.

I am thinking of throwing in the Rough Country Bar Pin Eliminators, but wanted to see if they were total crap or halfway decent;

They are less than half the price of the JKS ones, and I am not a rich man so every penny makes a difference come month's end. At the same time, I am not rich enough to waste money on garbage parts, so if the JKS ones are twice as good as the RC ones, I figure it makes more sense to just buy the good ones from the start.

I would use my rear-swaybar mounts as BPE mounts -- but from the hour of research I just did I am under the impression that the sideways mount will either cause binding, and some people have said the sideways mount actually stabilizes the shock bushing in most situations (less stress on the bushing since it is supported on each side is my understanding).
After reading for an hour and a half, I am now mostly confused and cant make up my mind

In addition -- I need some shocks that will match my 4.5 lift kit, but have NO idea what to put in. My inkling says to get some cheaper ones as I end up replacing stuff on this truck fairly regularly -- I am not trying to get more than 40K miles out of them.

Does anything fit the bill in the $30-$50 per shock range? I was thinking of just getting some Monroe shocks and matching it up for a 4.5 lift kit.


Sorry for the long winded post -- basically my questions are;
1. What rear upper bar-pin-eliminator I should buy (or should I just use the rear swaybar mounts)??
2. Good, comfortable shocks in the $30-$50 per shock range, that will fit a 4.5" lift kit


I know these questions have been answered a thousand times, but I really did do my research before deciding to post so hopefully I dont get flamed too hard

 

I am not sure about your shock question because I just have some basic white shocks from Iron rock off road. I have the Iron Rock Off Road bar pin eliminators. They are very heavy duty. I would definitely recommend them them. http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/10043.html

Dang metal man , that's a good idea. I never installed my sway bar brackets in fear of binding the bushings , but this will fix that. Thanks for the idea.

 

I know this thread is 3 years old but found the pics on google images and want to say thanks. Shops wanted $50 for these brackets and would need to wait up to 3 weeks.

 

Anyone mind suggesting a set of quality wheel spacers, maybe in a variety of depths?

See page two (I think it's two) where someone talks of standard height measuring 17" from center wheel to fender lip. Example, if you measure 20", you have roughly a 3" lift.

I have a 1999 XJ. I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with it. It runs really rough when it's cold. I've done a complete tune up, tps sensor. Map sensor. Cleaned the throttle body. Still cant figure it out. Check engine light is on but the code says transmission load range sensor. The only thing I think is left is the O2 sensors. Please help

 

I would choose something like Bilstein 5100 monotube gas shock set. I've searched and looked recently maybe at hundreds of different options of shocks, but maybe the most relevant thread I could find here on the website, where author compares dozens of different models of shocks, explaining everything about each model.

 

I’m looking for a replacement for my door hinges and can’t find any no matter where I look. I just bought my 2nd XJ and this one has door sag on both front doors,bad enough off the driver side to the point where I have to pick it up about an inch or two. Anyone know how I can fix this? (And I believe the hinge broke off the actual door on the lower one,hence the sag)
