alright so yesterday i went mudding and went a little wreckless. crossed a small river maybe a foot deep and then 5 mins later went to stop to drink a beer i shut my truck off and bam there goes the starter. 5 miles in the woods with only 45mins left of sunlight. After barely making it to the auto parts store we bought the new starter and banged that out 5 miles in the woods on the trail. now this morning when i left for work i go to start my jeep and every single light dimmed pretty bad. When i turn the key and a sweaky noise was happening. Any idea what belt it could be?? battery? alternator?

Its probably your alternator get one of those scopes that doctors use and touch the end to different things under the hood and see which one is making the noise

Touch the alternatot with the scope and if its loud, then u found your problem. It could be the dirt getting in the alternator or its goin bad, keep an eye on the volts guage and if it goes under 11 then its probably a bad alternator

Mines doing the same thing it could just be dirt inside the alternator and once it gets spinning it shoots the dirt out cause all the dirt under your hood gets in there and might make the noise, if not then its telling u it has not much life left. It wont die at once youll see the volts gradually go down.

Sow would you take the dirt out of the alt.? I went mudding the other day and now whenever I turn it on it sounds a little rougher, sounds good don't get me wrong I like how it sounds, but it didn't use to sound like that, idk if that will always happen or what?

Mud/dirt is not good for your alternator. Do this^. If I plan on doing a water crossing I usually keep a gallon of distilled water to dump on the alternator once I'm done.

The bearings can be failing and the alternator still charges. The two are not directly related. It won't work for long, though...
