My XJ is rumbling, not in a good way
Hello my fellow Cherokee owners.
So I have a 99 XJ with a 4.0 and 178k miles on it, I recently took it on a 1,000 mile trip (the farthest i've gone in it) and out of no where it started make a grumbling sound when i have it in drive or reverse and sometimes in park(it doesnt happen when in neutral). I also feel it when I apply the brakes and it gets a louder when i turn the A/C on (its hot in Arizona). The thing that also has me really stumped is that it stops as soon as i accelerate. I've looked at the exhaust to make sure it was attached right and wasnt bouncing around, but that was all i could come up with. I figured it could also be my tranny or drive shaft, but it still shifts great and i have not noticed any loss in my performance so i'm totally stumped. I could really use some help pinpointing the problem(s) that way if its something I cant fix myself I wont get robbed if I take it into a shop. Thanks everyone!

if you put the t-case in neutral and trans in drive does it still happen? If so, leave it like that and see if you can walk around and pinpoint the source of the sound

I'll try it after work. It sounds like its coming more from the passenger side, but i dont understand why i feel it when I apply the brakes. I just recently rebuilt both rear drums, but that wouldnt cause the sound right?
