When I put the 3 inch lift kit on my Cherokee it developed the expected vibrations. So I searched and found a kit that included the driveshaft. Now at the time I ordered it, Jeepoutpost said that this kit would work on my XJ. $493.00 dollars and a week later my kit arrives with a 16 1/2" driveshaft.

Many thanks to Cody at jeepoutpost. I was able to keep the SYE parts of the kit and return just the driveshaft for a refund.
Then it was time to find a driveshaft. I called a local shop and was quoted $400.00 for a new cardan style driveshaft. Since that just wasn't in the budget, I started searching for a factory made replacement.
I have found one that will work, '92 to '96 Grand Cherokee front driveshaft, But it has to be from one with the V8 engine. The Grand Cherokee's with the 4 liter have front driveshafts like the one in the XJ and are too short. The V8 GC driveshafts measure 31 1/4" fully compressed and 36 1/4" fully extended. I believe it is a type 1. Boneyard find, $50.00.
Now I should point out that my XJ is a 2001 with a Dana 35 rear end. Some of the older XJ's that have a Dana 44 rear will be able to use a stock front driveshaft from an XJ because the pinion is longer.
I also installed 2 degree pitch shims under my Rubicon Express rear leafs.

I went with the 2 degree shims and they lined the pinion up almost perfectly with the driveshaft. 3 degrees would probably be perfect. I am hoping that these aluminum ones will last through all the salt on the roads in the winter here in Illinois.

I replaced the rear U-joint on the new driveshaft but not the ones in the cardan end. The U-joints that are in there seem fine but I will feel better when new ones are installed.
The end result is a much better ride. My dome light doesn't seem like it's going to vibrate off and I can actually hear the radio without it being turned all the way up.

I bought my SYE ($99) discounted Rugged Ridge and a driveshaft made for my "1999" XJ for $190 (from a driveline shop) both on Amazon.com with free shipping.

One of our members spotted the deal and posted it here just about the time I needed one. Great Timing!!

FYI I just went from a 3" lift no SYE to a 4 1/2" with an SYE and 6* shims and a bunch of other upgrades at the same time in the driveline and suspension. Too many at the same time and have a few issues to sort out and they could come from several of the upgraded items.
