my cv drive line slip yolk wont slide
hi so i noticed my pinion leaking once the DL was unbolted from the axle the slip yolk was stiff , it had a half inch area that slid ok then would need hammering i tried to hammer it off the splined stub and got too about a inch i think.
and cant get further , It now is very stiff throughout
i want to know if it has a one or 3 peice dust cap and how to remove it?,
i also cant find replacements for this part . on ebay i found slip yolks but they have no dust cap or groove for them, what would cause this stiffness and shouldn't it slide easy
on the back end of the sleeve behind the u joint there is no cap just a wall of grease the slip is filled with clean grease, please don't say to grease it.
I also got grease in my eye while banging on it ive been flushing with hot water even soap and its not touching it , its marine grease

im a bit surprised no one helped out but thats ok ill tell what i now know
the remove the slip yoke dust cap ,its on the forward end, use large plyers get it twisting then twist and pull don't try to pry or use chisel ends.
then hammer for a long time till it comes off, i used a large wrench at first that fits the stub shaft
there is a blue plastic coating , i used a dremmel to remove it
then the slip worked with a little play, very little
ive been driveling it like this a few weeks
the coating isn't replaceable
so im getting a new dl built.
spicer slip yokes are available on amazon for spares they are 40 to 50 bucks.
now ive found my rear axle is moving around under power and will need new axle pushers welded on, the old shaft was holding it strait this may have contributed to the problem
the coating and splines looked good new
