Default Manual Shifting for AW-4 diagram

I have worked with many different iterations of being able to manually shift the AW-4 and here is one I worked up for PseudoSport for their RaceJeep. It uses the stock gear lever to manually select the gear and allows manual shifting. Just flip a switch and go from auto to manual. 1-2 becomes 1st gear, 3/D is 2nd and OD is 3rd. By using the gear lever, in 1st and 2nd there will be engine braking. This is for early OBD1 vehicles or with freestanding TCU operation. OBD2 '96?/'97+ will throw a CEL.
Requires DPDT switch, 2- 5wire SPDT relays and 2- diodes.
Thanks to PseudoSport for drawing up the nice picture.

But with the RAD design shifter you still need a DPDT switch and you usually leave the gear lever in OD so you don't get engine braking. I have 2 of the RAD and they work great but it is still something else to add on and you already have the stock gear shift lever which will do the same thing.

The rad designed winters kit is the best of all worlds and the ONLY KIT I Know of that has all in one shifting of every gear with hyrdo locking of the trans for engine braking in every gear, etc.

In other words, the only "Correct" shifter out there so far, for the AW4....

Thanks again for the help!

Since we were on a tight budget for the GRM Challenge this was a great solution for us. We reused 2 relays that were already on the Jeep, bought 2 diodes for $1.49, and the toggle switch for $4.99.

One thing on the diagram I should fix is that the green and gray gear input wires should be tapped into so that the shift computer and relays share the inputs. Right now it looks like you cut the wires and run them right to the relays.

The rad designed winters kit, $$$, is great but won't fit in the stock console and doesn't switch back to auto shifting. It is the ideal shifter for someone wanting full time manual shifting in an off-road or trail only rig.

On my 2000xj 1-2 is 1 only. 3 is 2-3.

So its about perfect for trail use because its in 1st gear almost all day.

Don't know if mine is rare or not?
