Default manual to auto swap

ok so i have an 87 xj with the 4.0 and 5spd manual, i do enjoy driving a manual trans but ive tossed up the idea of swaping in an auto trans

now this is just a trail only rig so it doesnt have to look great, but has to work

how hard is the swap to auto from a manual and what all is involved

Well i have never done one but i'd imagine you'd have to get all the sensors for an auto and harnesses probably kick down cables plus a torque converter. Drop drive lines, transfer case and than tranny. And than do all in reverse and replace fluids.

Do you still need the computer if you do a rail shifter or other shift controller? I don't know it was just a thought

hmm sounds lil complicated, does anyone know what sensors and wiring and computer do i need to control the trans?

might be easier to just swap my suspension and everything over to a stock auto jeep

You literally tap into 2 wires to have control of shifting and one more for the torque converter. It's very simple actually. I just don't know if any other wires are necessary
