So I took my rig on some trails for the first time this weekend. I ended up bashing in one of my bushwackers and bending in a fender. I'm thinking about making my bushwackers easily removable with magnets. Something I can take off for trails but put back on to be "street legal". I want to keep the bushwackers in good condition cause they cost a chunk of change, and I want to be able to hit the trails harder than I did this weekend.
So here's what I'm thinking. Mount a couple powerful magnets up in each fender flare. I'll cover each magnet with some cloth to keep them from scratching the paint. I'm not sure where I'll get the magnets or how they will be mounted yet. I also want to somehow keep the mounting hardware to line up in the holes and keep the flares from moving around. I'll be able to pop the flares off and on whenever necessary.
I feel like this is a pretty good idea, but I want to but bounce it off you guys to maybe improve it.
Thanks guys.

Really does sound decent idea. But what about I wouldn't saylike buttons but like hood pins witha cotter pin to make it quick and easy or maybe some rubber fender flares instead of plastic fenders

I don't want to put pins in them, I just don't see how that would work anyway. I'm not gonna buy rubber flares anyway cause there's nothing wrong with the bushwackers, and they look better.

Neodymium magnets will definitely work. I've bought them from http://www.kjmagnetics.com/ in the past.
Just as a funny story. I put 2 on my ear lobe to be funny and couldn't get them off. By the time I got them off I had big, ugly blood blister where my lobe used to be. This was my learning experience with this type of magnet.

If you want to use magnets get them from the site above, good site. To do this I would suggest a lot of STRONG magnets in the flair and the fender. Say your driving down the highway doing 70 plus there's a headwind, will these be able to hold up?

I like this idea too, but how would I make them hold to the fender, there isn't a spot that the flare truly sits flush with the fender? I'm not exactly sure how they work. This would definitely be more cost effective too.
