My XJ has always really had some play in the steering wheel, even before the 4.5'' to 6.5'' lift. While driving, I can move my wheel left and right without turning. I have an HD tie rod and double schear track bar. Stock drag link with a possibly old steering stabilizer (PO put it on with the 4.5'' lift). I think it's the steering box. I was planning on the Durango steering box upgrade anyway, since I run 33s. I'm going to look at a JY and see if I find anything, but if for some reason I can't, is this the one I need?

sub. in the same boat as the OP. was wondering if braceing would be a good starting point.
i'm at 4.5 with 33's. sorry op not trying to jack here. just wondering if you really need a new box for 33'sor just some add bracing like what IRO sells.
thankyou.

yes with a core exchange and a reman box, i paid 160'ish for stock box I put in mine when I redid it. new without core is 300+. I would expect durango box to be very close to those numbers. Try a JY if you want something cheaper
A brace would probably help, but if you've got a dead spot in the wheel its prolly the box

Box sounds like the culprit. Make sure to get under there and look for slop or play in the components while someone is turning the wheel back n forth. Just recently went through the same issues. Ended up replacing EVERYTHING. good luck
