looking for list of driveshaft lengths

i was wondering if anyone had a list of rear driveshaft lengths because i had aquired a 96 xj about 2 years ago and the rear diff was noisy it had a d35 and i swapped in a d44 everything seemed to be fine until about 6 months ago when i installed a 3" budget lift and i noticed that the driveshaft was not engaged as far as i think it really needs to be.

so question is what is the difference in driveshaft lengths for the d35 and d44 i have the aw4 and it is 4 door

that is normal with the lift, I thought the d35 and d44 had different length drive shafts since the 44 has a longer pinion yoke than a 35

hubbadub 02-28-2012 06:25 AM

i know it will not be like at stock height but i can grab the yoke by the ujoint and it wiggles quit a bit how much more engagement will i have with a 1" tcase drop? does anyone know

Measure the difference in the pinion length between the 35 and 44 and add that much.

Or just get under there and figure out how much you need to add to the length to make it engage farther...

These are stock rear drive shafts. They don't extend or collapse.

It's ok I understand.

I won't even point out that the front shafts don't need an SYE as they already have a slip yoke. ;) That's why they collapse and expand.

Those lengths are stock front shafts running lengths. I misread what you were trying to accomplish. I figured you would have had a SYE.

They have approximately 3 inches of travel so I would say 1.5 inches in either direction of that measurement would be approximate collapsed/extended lengths.

I've been searching for a rear drive shaft for my 96 4.0 w/AX15. I put the SYE in it and needed a longer ds than any xj comes with. My solution is a ds from a 93-95 grand Cherokee v8 u-joint style shaft. My yoke to yoke measurement at full drop is just over 34 inches. The measurements above are the collapsed length of the driveshaft's. I just wanted to clarify this in the case that someone does a search and comes across this info.

You measure with vechicle sitting on all 4 ride height then compare.

Is that end to end or center of u joint to center?

Drive shafts are always measured from center to center of the U-Joints.
