Looking for a lift kit. Educated info appreciated
1. Rubicon express 4.5 inch
2.fab tech 4 inch 3.currie 4.5 inch 4.tomken ultra flex 4.5 Inch. These are the kita if come across in my price range and height. Does anyone have experience with them? |
I have the Rubicon Express 3.5" springs, got about 5" out of them. Just know going this high will include more work than just the "Kit" you'll need a SYE and a CV drive shaft to replace the current rear setup. At that height Id recommend long or mid arms to smoothen out the ride. Whats your overall goal with your rig? What size of tires are you going. Basically why do you want to go 4.5"?

Overall goal is to have something that will keep up and is safe for my family to be in. |

Zone all the way. Been using their 4 1/2" all spring system on mine. SYE kit too. Been on there for 3 years with no real sag. Been selling and installing them for 8 years.

you also get the option of going to some nice biltseins instead of crap white bodies. I'd weld up some plates to the stock cross member and go out wheel a guy with a 5.5" IRO kit :w00t: just kidding |

From what i have read i see alot of people choosing smaller lifts then going bigger Id like to get something that will satisfy me for a while height wise. Same goes for tires changing lift usally makes you want bigger tires.

Just remember at 4.5 inches your gonna need a sye and longer brake lines so budget that stuff in also. And if you have the stock steering a cheap upgrade is the zj v8 tie rod ends.
|
Some kits include brake line drop brackets and a transfer case drop if you're on a budget.

Love my Currie RockJock 4.5" lift...nice smooth ride and clears 33's with a little trimming and 35's with proper bump stops.

Extended brake hoses.... The instructions say to relocate the mounting bracket but I chose to buy new braided hoses instead. The rear leafs are pre-shimmed to change the pinion angle and although I have a spare t-case with SYE, I haven't had to install it. No vibrations whatsoever. |
I know it doesn't sound like much an 1 1/2" but going from a 3" lift to a 4 1/2" using my original springs and other things installed with the 3" items used again cost me about $3100 more. My next step to long arms and the extras I want with them is another to come.
I started with a basic lift with quality springs known for a better ride and no sag of the leafs with time and heavy loads considered. The other thing was where the springs were made 98% of all the lift kits use cheap springs from China and other places. Very few offer American made springs but Rustys Off Road does and after 4 yrs can vouch for the springs. 95% of the time those kits offering you a bunch of different parts tend to be not of the best quality, even in their own line. Your best bet is to pick the best parts from different companies and not buy a large kit. Just a basic one like the Rustys 3" full leaf/coil package $438 I think, you will have a good base kit to build on if you want more lift to 4 1/2". |
