Any others care to chime in? I too am in the same dilemma. I have to regear my front to match my 8.8(4.10 w/LSD). Vehicle is mostly a pavement pounder, but plan to start making, at minimum, monthly trips this season to Uwharrie. I'm running 33s currently, likely move up to 35s when they wear out. Sorry to thread jack but just looking for an economical option to hold me over until I get a D44 built

I too want to kinow what to do in this situation I need to regear to 4.56 which means a new carrier in my dana 30, So I was thinking full Detroit Locker Then comes the question can I then upgrade to 30 spline shafts? I was told the Detroit Full Locker when in 2WD acts like an open diff is that true?

No, this is absolutely not true, the detroit trutrac LSD would act as open in 2wd, but a full case locker will be locked all the time regardless of 2wd or 4wd

Not true. In 2wd any auto locker, which includes the Detroit as well as lunchbox type, will work like an open diff. Auto lockers work off torque and only lock up when torque is applied and since in 2wd there is none it won't lock up.

"The Detroit Locker maximizes traction by delivering 100% of the torque to both drive wheels. It is engineered to keep both wheels in a constant drive mode, and has the ability to automatically allow wheel speed differentiation when required. Applications are also available for C-Clip style axles."

Read em and weap. though the locker does allow for some differentiation. they are active whenever they are spinning, therefore, you must use lockout hubs |
The unit unlocks in a turn for the wheel that is turning the fastest. |
It does to an extent, you can tell that a detroit is there when turning in 2wd, trust me, a good friend of mine has one in front(trail jeep). Also if you look they say right there that you need to have lockout hubs to avoid steering problems while driving on the street
|
"Can the Detroit Locker be used in the front axles?
Yes they can, but you must have lock out hubs and they MUST be unlocked for on- road driving because of steering issues." |

They're still not permanently locked. "Not enough differentiating on the street" is different from "none".
The OP doesn't have one of those lockers anyway... |
