Sorry bud...that IS an auto locker. If you're saying it isn't, then what is it? If you type "auto locker" in google, what's the first thing you see? Detroit and Grizzly are just high-end auto lockers that also replace the carrier.
my 2cents....
to the OP, do you need a locker because your XJ cant get you far enough down the trail as it is?
someone mentioned earlier " where does the spending end"
well..... an XJ will get ya pretty far down a trail in stock form (drivetrain wise)
if you are doing the type of wheeling that REQUIRES a locker the spending will prob never end! its an expensive hobby and its an awsome one.
after all the research i did on here about this very thing I opted to spend the money and get an OX for my 8.25 with the electrically operated adapter and i couldnt be happier...
just a single switch in the cabin and i can go from a completely open, perfect manner on the road stock feeling setup that easy on my tires and very predictable to drive on any road condition and silent,
to a 100% locked system that as strong as most anything out there. plus i dont have to have a silly air compressor making noise the whole time im locked.
please no one jump on my *** about the great things about ARB, or their compressor on board, i know all of its + and - i weighed the options and still feel OX is a better choice.
PS if you get a locker wheel with a friend that has a winch or buy your own first before you lock up an axle...
lil bit of advise i leraned over the years " lockers get you into trouble, winches get you out"

Also, from what I've seen most auto-lockers work exactly the same regardless if lunchbox or full-case.
- Engagement: Small springs and center-pin(s) force.
- Disengagement: The cogs are ramped which allow movement which can overcome the load from the small springs when not under load from center-pin(s).

it's getting tempermental up in here...
I didn't put any on mine. still got it assembled.. why would you want that **** in your diff?
ok google says you're correct. locker that locks up under torque would be an "auto" locker. but I'm still going to distinguish that it's a lunchbox so people know what the heck I'm talking about. guess I'll have to change the terminology and preface with "full case" auto

Some recommend grease just to help hold it together. Not always necessary but can make it easier especially if you're laying on the ground. I found the little springs in the C8.25 No Slip can be very difficult if not impossible without grease if you need to change an axle on the trail. Plus I noticed when re-opening after a while there is no evidence there was ever grease in there. It must get diluted with the oil.

You're a special kind of stupid huh?
No you did not state a fact, stating a fact would be "most lockers are silent, the only real time they make any noise would be on tight turns unless they are installed improperly or a spring is defunk/bad" that jeep in the video wasn't even taking a sharp turn in the beginning and it was ratcheting, that means something is wrong. When my buddies jeep did do a tight turn, i actually had to have him turn the fan off to hear clearly. If you do it right, only time it's gonna be loud is either tight tight turns or if you're a manual. Again making a bs "fact" that they all make noise is what is wrong with you kind of people, you're almost as bad as holycaveman

Sorry chief you are still agreeing with me. I never said a constant noise. This was your post.
Anyway, for myself I feel buyers remorse on getting the Aussie. If I had to do it again I'd wait until I saved more money and bought another No Slip. At first I said, I don't care if it makes noise, and keep in mind I've removed the headliner and that doesn't bother me, but after a few weeks the banging and popping from the front when just trying to make a U-turn on the street is unsettling. They say it gets quieter after a while but I've had mine about a year and I'm still waiting. I'm almost to the point of putting the open diff back in.
I was just assuming if your almost to the point of putting the open diff back in your hearing it without your head out the window.
Per your post you guys have very different opinions about the auto locker. That is what confuses me (perplexes) Maybe some guys just can't hear as well as others

Yes I am agreeing with you that they make noise, what in not agreeing with is that you gave no indication that its only on tight turns or improperly installed locker. That is letting new guys get the wrong impressions of these lockers, it's just like telling people to use lift blocks, ya they can work but you need to warn them on the problems that will and can happen(axle wrap, faster spring wear) that is why I made the comment that you are almost as bad as holycaveman lol

The Detroit is stronger than a aussie, but like you said it's still an auto. If your going to spend all that extra money on getting it installed why not just get a selectable. Right now a Detroit auto is $670 at 4WP and an OX selectable is $746. $76 more. Hmm a no brainer IMO Now if I just had the money.
