Locker for the 8.25 diff
Looking for a Locker for the rear diff in my 93 XJ. It has the 8.25 27 spline diff in it.
I cant seem to find much for lockers online. Whats gonna be the cheapest one available for this diff? And where can it be purchased?
Thanks
(or if you have one forsale PM me)

not many options for the 27 spline. powertrax makes one. aussie does not. i do not think spartan does either.
detroit and others make a full carrier locker.

Does having just a rear locker make a pretty big difference? Like 400 dollars worth difference? Very tempting to buy, I think my open diffs are really hurting it offroad.

Yea, it makes a big difference. I opted for the locker in the front. I put a Spartan locker up front. You don't even know it's there until you put in 4wd. I searched for one for the 8.25 and was about to buy the lock-right when I came across some articles about towing with a locker in the rear. So I'm going to install a factory trac-loc in the 8.25 instead.

You can buy 1541H aftermarket 29 spline shafts for your 8.25 for around 200 dollars, and go with a 29 spline Detroit locker like I did. Now I have a rear diff that will hold up to wheeling with 35s.

I just got on Quadratec and they offer a detroit for a 27 spline C8.25, but I still recommend upgrading to 29 splines if you want them to last

The 29 splines shaft is bigger and stronger that 27.
I think the factory change 27 to 29 splines in 96 model. So far there is nothing that you can tell from extenally. You need to take the inner shaft out and count the splines.

Upgrading from 27 splines to 29 splines is just a matter of buying new axle shaft assemblies and installing them. There are a lot more lockers available for 29 splines than 27's, but nowhere near as many as a Dana series axle, but I would upgrade to 29's if you want a cheaper option that is almost comparable in strength to D44.
