what to do? Just got stock 4x4 92 limited, and it's gonna be my daily driver/weekend mud toy. I'm thinking of getting a 3" lift, with 31 inch All terrain tires. I was also contemplating getting a small bull bar with a winch, and a hi-lift jack on the back. Anything from performance to looks, what else should i throw on there?

3" and 31s on Ds or soft 8s wheels, just make sure you get after market adjustable LCAs and front discos
or you might think about a 4.5" long arm setup and 33s?

hmm well i don't want to go all out on the lift and tires since it will be a daily driver. I don't want to totally kill my mpg. haha I think 3 inch and 31s would be as far as i go for now. what do you guys think about a cold air intake and a new after market exhaust system? would it be worth the money?
and I won't be getting crazy with mudding. just moderate stuff. would i really need lockers?

on a serious note, Having built a few vehicles. I would sit on the money. read, read, read about what people have done and threw tons of build threads. find what fits you and a "your" budget friendly way to accomplish it. that way you aren't redoing things later for after thoughts or a quick decision/regret... If you don't wan't to go "all out" but plan on wheeling it I would go with a 4.5" lift minimum and your 31's, then you won't have to lift for 32's WHEN you go to 32's or bigger and minimal lifting/trimming for 33's/35's.... A locker is a GREAT upgrade to anything off road.

I would definately go 33's. You didnt say what kind of mech/fab skills you have.
RK 3 link front upgrade 750 (motion offroad)
COils pick yourheight (129 just about any vendor new)
RK BOMB prrof trac b ar and mount (179 just pick based on lift height)
ALcan leaf springs 450
Aussie lockers front and rear 400 (pirate vendor section)
new/used 33's and wheels 1200new/ way less if used
Front steering 300 (budget way high.. but thats what A custom heim joint/1ton setup will cost. I would do ZJ steering)
SMittybuilt 8k winch 329 to your door.
IF you can find a few deals you will be able to buy a new front bumper/ buy a used one. total price listed above is just under 3800

yeah i build and sell stuff, but my advice is a little different that what's been posted already.
Start with armor and recovery points...then stop.
Wheel it as is for a little while and learn the strengths and weaknesses of your rig (and yourself too) before throwing money at it.
Go wheeling with experienced folks that can help ya through the tough stuff and point out what is and isn't worth upgrading for type of terrain you'll be wheeling on.
Make sense?

if you only want to do 3" and 31s you can do a TON of upgrading for 4k. I went 4.5" long arm on 33s and with everything ive done (locker F/R, etc) im under 4k including the price of the Jeep itself. For your 4k, you could probably lift, tires, all armor, everything for 4k if you search for the right deals

X2 on FrankZ post. I knew someone who threw $$$ into XJ before their skills developed. Lots of broken parts, blown money, and a near rollover. He has now sold it out of frustration.
