Default Limit straps ??? Yes or no

I've got a 4.5 inch rc lift with 1 inch spacers in the front on my coils. Do I need to use limiting straps??? If so how long should I get ?

It would make more sense to get longer shocks and brakelines. Limit straps are just there to to stop the suspension from moving down before anything else does.

Hard to say. If your shocks are your limiting factor and have a heavy wheel and tire combo limiting straps would take the stress off them. For the length you will have to measure and buy accordingly.

Do you have big enough bump stops to stop the tires from being pushed up in to the sheet metal ?

Only time you need limiting straps is to keep the coils in on maxed flex, too much droop in suspension.

Bumpstops......... or just trim more sheet metal

On short arms you rarely see people running limit straps, that's a long arm thing.

this. I've broken at least 3 shocks due to poor limit strapping. the first time it happened I pulled the shock stem out of the body. that was on short arms. don't rely on your shocks to limit your suspension people!

Reviving an old thread.

There's a lot of talk about how topping out a shock absorber is bad for it. Except that literally every single car I have ever worked on tops out its shock absorbers every time the vehicle is put on the hoist.

My Jeep slightly runs out of coil spring before it runs out of shock with it's 3.5" of lift. The coil is well secured on the bottom and there's no way I am going to lose a spring.

So, what is the purpose of limiting straps vs having the shocks do the limiting like vehicles do from the factory? The best I can come up with is in a situation where a short arm is fully dropped and something causes the axle to pull aft which would put a lot of force on the shock absorbers.

It’s not good to hang the weight of a heavy tire and axle in the air from a shock fully extended when off-road. Sometimes you unload fast so it causes more force on the internals.

I Am pretty sure that a Gladiator right off the showroom floor has 33's and a heavier axle than I have and has no limiting straps.
And shock absorbers slow the suspension in both compression and rebound. That alone limits how fast it can unload.

I run limit straps with King coilovers overs. I do not run bump stops because I never bottom them but my 3 has way morevthan the 7" of extension that my 12" shocks have. I actually would also need limit straps with 12-16" shocks.
the limit straps save my shocks while crawling slow

Ori struts have built in bump and limit bumps are about the only shock on the market that can be used without straps.

Jeeps on short arms do not need to worry unless shockscarecto short

This is on the strap

HELLO
Are your bump stops large enough to prevent the tires from being forced up against the sheet metal?
