Lifting from stock to 2-3"
Got a 99 xj with the 8.25 rear. Im looking for 2-3" of lift. I have coil spacers already for the front, but i need leafs as my factory ones are shot. Im running 30s for now maybe 31s down the road but the 30s have 75% tread.I also need shocks so i figure its cheaper to get a whole lift kit instead of piecing it out. Im not sure whats a solid middle of the road brand. I have 4-500 to spend. Any vendors on the site that would be good to go to and get a discount?

Piecing out a kit is cheaper then buying as a whole, I saved $400 on my setup piecing it together . Given your budget, Well a middle of the road kit will not be in your budget. if you want full leafs in a kit you'll be looking at $600 minimum for a kit
Now you can buy 3" coils for $100, OME Leafs for about $260 (pair) Adjustable trackbar for $125, Lower control arms $ 130ish, Tcase drop $50, I only run Bilstein shocks so I dont know how much cheap shocks are , F/R Extended brake lines $150, Front/Rear Bumpstops $100

Also you may save more money by skipping on the t-case drop. It won't be needed for 3" in my op. Or you could spend 10$ and make them yourself. Extended braided brake lines can be had at about any auto parts store for under 40$

I tried piecing out a kit and always heard its cheaper, that's not always the case.. It really boils down to what kind of parts you want, if you're looking for adj everything then piece it out, if you want fixed buy a kit and add to it as shipping is free from most places...
when I pieced it out, part by part it was the exact same amount as the kit (apples to apples), but essentially would have cost me more to ship... !!!
I got the kit shipped free !!!

I'd be fine with 2 2.5" whatever requires the least additional modification. I need leaf packs for sure mine are beyond flat. Basically I need leaf packs and shocks for the lift aspect I believe.

advice from my very limited experience and from previous reads...
maybe a JY s10 leaf pack?? I believe you only need to grind a piece off the end and its a direct fit?? (others chime in)
or maybe just add a leaf for now to get you by until you want/need something more.. (we always do once you lift)
less than half a cent, but wanted to up my post count

My used 3 inch coils were $50, used AAL spring pack was $50, & my (5k mile) JK Rubicon shocks were $50.
$150 for a 3 in lift.
It can be done.

So many options out there and a lot of choices are really subjective. First thing I would recommend is make sure all your bushings, bearings, steering components and driveline are all in good condition. If questionable replace that stuff first.
For the lift if you are absolutely sure you are staying low go with some replacement leafs of your choice and pickup shackle relocators and extended shackles. Pickup some good shocks, Bilsteins are highly favored around here. Relocate your trackbar mounting hole over about 5/8-3/4" and you're done. If you have driveline vibes afterwards you can easily lower the tcase using various methods. As simply as longer bolts and stacked washers.
Now if you are serious and want to do it better save up some more and buy some quality lift parts and do it right. It can get quite expensive when you take everything into account but the end result is a vehicle that can perform much better on and off road than factory.
Just some thoughts.
